OFFERINGS
CLASSES
CRAFTING presents a diverse array of classes encompassing partnering, sonic embodiment, improvisation, release technique, and more. Additionally, our seminars offer accessible insights into working choreographers and companies, along with valuable knowledge on archival tap information.
Every day at the workshop begins with foundational courses tailored to suit beginner and intermediate dancers. These classes integrate ballet, tap, and contemporary phrase work, delivering a dynamic and comprehensive learning experience.
FILM PROJECT
As dance companies and collectives increasingly prioritize choreography tailored for media, CRAFTING introduces students to this innovative practice. Each weekend offers an optional film-based project, allowing students to expand upon learned ideas with the faculty to produce movement on film. This initiative serves as a video portfolio, providing students with material they can leverage for early career outreach.
SOLO SHOWING
Throughout this weekend, we offer the option for a solo showcase upon the studio’s interest. This opportunity allows students to perform their individual solo pieces and receive immediate feedback from our faculty. Each dancer can choose feedback tailored for convention stages or college audition submissions.
CLASSES
FOUNDATION CLASSES
TECHNIQUE
By emphasizing methods to cultivate body awareness, this class ignites sensory perception while moving through space, encompassing both classical and non-classical styles. This concept is integrated not only during phrase work but also within stationary positions. The focus will be on various exercises aimed at stabilization, organization, and enhancing strength.
RELEASE
This class integrates somatic practice and choreography. Students will engage in exercises focusing on counter-balance, utilizing compressive and expansive gestures, as well as exploring distributive pathways driven by momentum and weight.
SONIC EMBODIMENT
This course will provide an in-depth kinetic understanding of musical structure and rhythmic analysis. Its goal is to equip students with the musical vocabulary required for effective communication with musicians and to expand your unique embodied musical potential. We will use process-oriented, problem-solving activities to explore concepts such as rhythmic displacement, polyrhythm, and syncopation. Additionally, we’ll examine how heightened musical awareness influences our dancing, improvisation, and choreography.
FLOORWORK
Highlighting the refinement of efficient movement pathways close to the floor, this class encompasses compression, stability, and techniques to acquire momentum and strength in a new spatial orientation. Participants are led through exercises designed to enhance control while discovering innovative ways to seamlessly transition between floor movements.
PARTNERING
Exploring the dynamics of weight sharing and coordinated movement within a partnership, students will cultivate balance and cooperation. This class emphasizes the interpersonal aspects, motivating a deeper appreciation for the collaborative and expressive nature of partnering in dance.
